Samsung Galaxy S5 tops our blind camera comparison for the third time in a row, LG G3 close second

One of the many things to like about the Samsung Galaxy S5 is that it comes with a superb main camera. We're delighted with the photos that it takes, and so are our readers, it seems. In fact, Samsung's top model won a blind camera comparison of ours for the third time in a row, even though it ran against five very capable rivals. Out of the 1504 people who participated in the poll, 513 voted for the S5, giving it an overall score of 34.11%. But the LG G3 was only four votes short of winning the gold. It got 510 of our readers' votes (33.91%) which makes it about as tough of a contender in the camera category as the Galaxy S5.

Apple's iPhone 5s came in third place after accumulating 182 votes (12.1%), or about three times less than what the Galaxy S5 and LG G3 got. The LG G2, HTC One (M8), and Sony Xperia Z2 couldn't really wow our readers as they received only 105, 99, and 95 votes respectively. That's all for now, folks. Counterclockwise: iPhone 4, Lumia 1020, Galaxy S4 Active

Welcome to this week's edition of Counterclockwise ? our weekly article that looks back in time at what happened in the last few years. This week iPhones and Galaxys dominate the the discussion, but we have a surprise appearance by the grandaddies of smartwatches.

Four years ago Apple began the resolution wars ? the new iPhone 4 had a so-called Retina display with 640 x 960 resolution, or 326 pixels per inch. Few came close to that kind of sharpness at the time, but the floodgates were opened.

That was four years ago and the iPhone is still stuck at 326ppi, despite moving to a 16:9 screen starting with the iPhone 5. Android manufacturers meanwhile went bonkers and are already using QHD screens (1,440 x 2,560) with 534 pixels per inch.


Non-Retina and Retina displays compered

The iPhone 4 marked a few other firsts too ? it was the first iPhone with a camera that made the competition shake in its boots (a great 5MP shooter with 720p video capture) and it introduced the basic design that has been used since.

The iPhone 5 swapped the glass back for metal, but the overall looks are very similar. That might be coming to an end though, leaks of the iPhone 6 point to an iPod touch-derived design.

There's more ? Apple renamed "iPhone OS" to "iOS" to put the iPhone and iPad under the same umbrella and introduced FaceTime, a custom video call solution.

A year later in 2011 Apple unveiled the new iOS, version 5. It brought a notification shade and built on Apple's custom messaging formats with iMessage. It enhanced regular SMS messages by routing them over the internet and it allowed users to send photos, videos and contacts more painlessly than going through MMS.

Samsung Galaxy Tab4 8.0 3G, Galaxy Tab4 10.1 3G Listed on Company's Site

Samsung seems all set to launch the Galaxy Tab4 range of tablets in India.

The Galaxy Tab4 8.0 3G (SM-T331) and Galaxy Tab4 10.1 3G (SM-T531) tablets are now listed on the company's India e-store at Rs. 23,960 and Rs. 30,498 respectively, ahead of any official announcement.

On Tuesday, NDTV Gadgets had reported that both the Galaxy Tab4 8.0 3G (SM-T331) and Galaxy Tab4 10.1 3G (SM-T531) will be launched in India this week with MRP of Rs. 27,710 and Rs. 34,640.

As of now, both the tablets are listed as 'not in stock' and provide a 'notify me' option for consumers with no detail about availability. Unfortunately, there is no word on the Galaxy Tab4 7.0 (SM-T230) pricing for the Indian market.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab4 range was announced in April and includes three tablets, namely: Galaxy Tab4 7.0, Galaxy Tab4 8.0 and Galaxy Tab4 10.1.

Notably, the three tablets in the Samsung Galaxy Tab4 series share many common specifications. They all run Android 4.4 KitKat and are all powered by 1.2GHz quad-core processors (unspecified chipset), alongside 1.5GB of RAM. Further, the three Galaxy Tab4 tablets sport 3-megapixel fixed focus rear cameras and also house 1.3-megapixel front-facing cameras.

Q3 Samsung Galaxy S5 orders down 25% in iPhone 6 anticipation

Samsung's Galaxy S5 has sold very well, however, the Korean-tech manufacturer has noticed a significant dip in orders for Q3 2014: a 25% cut. This is hardly good news for Samsung, as many believe that this is due to a significant consumer base holding off on device purchases for the upcoming iPhone 6.

According to sales reports from Taiwan, 21 million Samsung Galaxy S5s were sold in the second quarter of this year. In Q3, Samsung will only be shipping 15 million phones. The Galaxy S4 also received a cut from 6 million units to 5 million shipped units. Samsung believes that many possible buyers are waiting for the iPhone 6.

And it's difficult to not understand people's excitement about Apple's upcoming iDevice: rumor has it that it will be the first smartphone by Apple with a screen size that can compete with the higher end Droids: (4.7?), not to mention that it will be dressed up in a scratch-resistant sapphire coating.

However, it is possible other Android handsets like the HTC One M8 and the LG G3 may have also contributed to Samsung's decision to scale back manufacturing of their smartphones. There is only so much space at the top, and although Samsung is king now, in the mobile phone world, newer phones are usually equated with being better ones.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S: leaked pictures and features

We've been hearing news about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Tab S for a while now, but now we have images of the tablet along with some of its features, ahead of its scheduled June 12th official announcement.

First off, the Galaxy Tab S is going to be one skinny slate: it measures in at 6.6mm thin with a weight of 465 grams. Looks wise, it resembles the Galaxy S5, with the same patterned texture of Samsung's flagship phone, with a golden-coppery finish emblazoning the sides of the device.

The new leaked features reveal that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S will come pre-installed with the remote PC application (which does exactly what the name implies: allows you to remotely access your PC through the tablet's WiFi or data connection), and the Tab S also lets you sync it with your Samsung Galaxy S phone to allow you to take calls directly on your tablet. A little window will pop up on the Tab S that will display the caller information, so you can talk and play around on your Samsung slate simultaneously.

The AMOLED screen of the Tab S will sport a 2560x1600 resolution, and it is powered by an octa-core Exynos 5420 processor, 3GB RAM, 8MP primary camera, and a 2.1 selfie unit. The tablet offers 32GB of storage with a microSD card slot, Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box. Expect the Tab S to be available for purchase by the end of this month.
